The essence of June 2022 for Bastille Magazine
Every month, Bastille Magazine offers a full-page spread to a new illustrator. This June 2022, Bastille has given carte blanche to Aloïs Marignane. In France, we’re in the middle of legislative elections, but it’s also Father’s Day on Sunday June 12, 2022. Aloïs has woven these two themes into his illustration.

Father and son by the Seine
Under the warm embrace of a radiant June sun, a father and son sit side by side, contemplating the Seine. In the shade of an imposing tree, the father observes the drawing his son has just given him. Next to a strange shape in which he pretends to recognize himself, he can read “mon papa” (“my dad”). His son looks away. Another scene intrigued him. Before his eyes, a large swan glides across the water and appears before him. He clutched his father’s film camera and prepared to capture the spectacle. In the background, a line of people lining the side of the local elementary school wait patiently for their turn to deposit an envelope in the ballot box. The image exudes a gentle warmth, the anticipation of summer and the charm of the imminent vacations.
