The Washington Post, one of America’s most influential newspapers, recently commissioned artist Aloïs Marignane to create an illustration for its article aimed at American parents looking for summer activities for their children. In this illustration, Alois sought to translate this intention into a single scene, highlighting several outdoor activities in a natural setting. The illustration reflects the diversity of summer experiences available to American families.

In the foreground of the illustration, we discover a snack consisting of a cup of tea, a refreshing juice and a delicious cookie. This setting evokes the simple pleasure of sharing a gourmet moment outdoors with the family. Just behind, a stream stretches peacefully and two young adventurers paddle along in a canoe. A young girl marvels at a gigantic work of art, a brightly colored floral painting. A few steps away, children shelter under majestic trees and watch in fascination as two friends practice trapeze over a safety net. This juxtaposition of diverse activities highlights the wealth of opportunities offered to American children to explore nature and thrive while having fun.
