The Rue de Ménilmontant climbs steadily and seems to go on forever, especially when you’re on a bike. But if you take a stroll on a summer evening and turn around when you reach Place du Square Sorbier, you’ll be rewarded with a view of the whole of Paris and the gleaming roof of the Centre Pompidou. Living just a few steps away, I have often admired this sight.
